A casting director is a person that is responsible for sourcing talent for TV, Film, Theatre and Commercials. Their job involves highlighting every role within the script, as well as key attributes that are important for casting.

Then, using their industry knowledge, they decide who they’d like to see within each role. They then send invites to those actors and also send general breakdowns to agencies. They organise and run auditions, provide suggestions to directors and producers and ultimately (along with the director and producer) decide who gets each role.

As an actor, it’s important that you understnad the role of a casting director as well as how the process works. Why not check out my article on how actors are cast in films to get a deeper insight into the casting process?
